Gallery of Heroes Presentation

Martin Luther King Montessori School’s room 102 classroom celebrated the last day of Black History Month with a live exhibit of African Americans who shaped history.

Each child was given a hero in African American history to learn about and portray for Black History Month. From Muhammad Ali to Michael Jordan, the children all arrived dressed and ready to share what they learned about their person. Parents supported by putting their children’s outfits together and rehearsing their facts at home. They were able to watch virtually and the children were highlighted on WANE 15 News channel.

The classroom’s co-teachers, Ms. Teresa and Teacher Kaylee, thought of this idea from doing a similar project in school growing up. They read books and watched informational videos about all of the students’ assigned subjects with the class every day to help the children memorize them. Both teachers expressed how proud they were as well as how proud the children were of themselves.

Learning about these individuals have brought the children excitement and enthusiasm to learn and to become impactful adults.
