Fort Wayne’s oldest Montessori school will host 50 events to commemorate its 50-year anniversary and is seeking alumni to join in the celebration.
[August 7, 2018; Fort Wayne, IN] Since 1968, Martin Luther King Montessori School, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency and Fort Wayne's oldest Montessori school, has been dedicated to the mission of providing quality care and education to at-risk, low-income preschool children in the Fort Wayne community. To commemorate its 50th year in business, MLK Montessori is seeking to develop a fuller understanding of the school’s impact and history and is encouraging anyone who has attended or worked at MLK to go to the school’s website, www.mlkdreamschool.org/alumni/, to share their own information and memories. Please support the school’s efforts to document this important piece of Fort Wayne’s history by communicating this opportunity.
To celebrate its 50th year in business, MLK Montessori is also committed to hosting 50 events, both large and small, in 2018. Already this year, the school has hosted a "Rosa Parks Bus Tour," reading events with the Fort Wayne Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and "Share My Seat"—just to name a few. The school looks forward to other upcoming events, including its second annual SmartStart Soirée. The SmartStart Soirée will take place on October 11 at C2G Music Hall in downtown Fort Wayne. The event will include an auction featuring collaborative art pieces donated by local and national artists, including Terry Ratliff, Claire Ewart, Kipp Bailey, Charlotte Smith, Alexis James, David Carpenter, Jared Applegate, Brenda Shropshire, Leslie Myers, and Dan & Marlene Cobel. What will make the auction truly unique is that each one-of-a-kind piece will be inspired by and paired with the artwork of an MLK student. MLK Montessori encourages alumni, those with professional connections to the school, and anyone from the community to consider attending the SmartStart Soirée or another event in 2018.
