At MLK Montessori, our program is designed with the working parent in mind.
year-round class
To allow students to be engaged in their learning for the majority of the year, MLK Montessori offers year-round classes. This year’s 2024 summer classes will begin on June 3, 2024 and will continue through July 19, 2024. The 2024-2025 school year will begin on August 12, 2024.
MLK Montessori classes operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Bus Service
MLK Montessori understands that getting children to and from preschool can be a burden for working parents. In an effort to ensure that all students are able to enjoy our program – regardless of family schedules or access to transportation – MLK Montessori offers bus services for students to and from many Fort Wayne neighborhoods. Bus service boundaries: south of Lewis street, east of Fairfield street, north of Tillman road, west of Hessen Cassel, and limited bus stops as needed throughout Allen county.
Meal Program
MLK Montessori serves healthy and nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) as well as other snacks to all of its students thanks to its partnership with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which is administered by the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service. Childcare providers who participate in the Food Program offer more fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats than providers who do not participate in CACFP. Moreover, MLK Montessori’s participation means that not only are well-balanced meals and snacks served, but that other requirements (e.g. safety regulations and other health guidelines) are also being followed. To remain in the program, MLK Montessori is continually monitored and held to the highest standards of health and nutrition. See sample menu
Tuition Assistance
MLK Montessori serves all children, regardless of their families’ incomes. Each year, the majority of our students receive tuition assistance through MLK Montessori scholarships, Automated Health Services or the On My Way Pre-K Program. If you would like assistance accessing any of these resources, please contact the MLK Montessori office at (260) 423-4333 or schedule a tour with us using our online form.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Studies show that meaningful family engagement in children’s early learning supports school readiness and later academic success. For these and other reasons, MLK Montessori encourages parent involvement and offers a variety of opportunities for parents to be engaged in their children’s education.
Parent Advisory Council: All parents are given the opportunity to serve on the Parent Advisory Council. The Parent Advisory Council, which meets quarterly with the school’s Family Engagement Specialist and with a representative from the Board of Directors, supports student learning and helps to make decisions related to the school’s Family Enrichment Activities and Parent Information Nights.
Family Enrichment Activities: MLK Montessori hosts approximately six Family Enrichment Activities each year. The goal of these activities is to bring students and parents together and to celebrate the family. Activities include, for example, “Donuts for Dad,” “Fall Fest,” and the annual “Gala/Prom.”
Parent Information Nights: During Parent Information Nights, which occur quarterly, MLK Montessori disseminates critical information to families on topics such as promoting literacy at home and The CollegeChoice Advisor 529 Savings Plan.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: MLK Montessori holds mandatory Parent-Teacher Conferences twice each year.
